I do my best to blur the boundary between art and life as much as possible, but on occasion my only recourse is to identify as a creative writer. This means creative writing is one of the most important things in my life. One day I may make money at it - I have enough confidence in my abilities that I freely imagine this - but currently 'tis not the case, and it's not happening in the short term.
Oddly, though, despite having just enough money to pay the bills and own a car and purchase certain substances that I enjoy abusing on a semi-regular basis, my suspicion is that I'm still a lot happier than most people who have an abundance of money. (I know I can't prove this objectively) Doing a more standard career thing is still a possibility, but I'm far too much the anarchist to make any promises.
I'm very open-minded, sometimes stupidly open-minded. But if you are to reply to my ad, please have an imagination which, were you to unleash the full might of its beauty upon the world, would confuse or offend the majority of the American population. I think this is my only requirement, but it's worth adding that I'll notice if you're weird, artistic, well-read, spiritually savvy, witty, in possession of a well-developed conscience, playful, or any number of other good things. I pay attention to looks, (sometimes more than I'd like) but I prefer to see beyond them.
Perhaps the "spiritually savvy" comment has triggered alarm bells. If yes, that's good: it means you have a skeptical side, and that you're alive. But spirituality shapes my perceptions and decisions, so I have to mention it.
I can talk a strong spiel, when it makes sense to do so, on the personal/finite self, consciousness, evolution and enlightenment, purpose, reality - the whole cosmic burrito. I take it very seriously. . . but I don't take it seriously at all! And if you can make sense of that statement (hint: it's not actually a contradiction), great, and if not, well, that's great too. Because even if you're not into meditation and East-Meets-West philosophy, I don't see that as a barrier. Differences of perspective are so fundamental to human life that it would be ludicrous to try to avoid it. I have friends who are atheists, nihilists. . . somehow it just works out. Believe whatever the hell you want.
If we meet, you have permission to stare intently into my eyes and declare:
"I am more enlightened than you. If we're all One. . . then I'm two!"
I confess that I dream of romantic bliss, of mutual worship. Of a strong connection and each passionately committed to fostering the life energy of the other. But if this doesn't happen, I'll take the next best thing.
Despite coming across, overall I think, as very confident and occasionally arrogant, a big dimension of myself is extremely sensitive. For a LTR to work, I would need to share with my partner this emotional sensitivity: vulnerability, doubt, weakness, tears, anxiety. . . all that stuff. I am also sometimes shy around girls, but I can push through this easily enough for anyone who gives me the benefit of the doubt.
In addition to being arrogant and sensitive, I possess many other sterling qualities. For example, I am inordinately fond of slugs and snails.
